Advice tailored to you

There is no one-size-fits-all guidance for the transformational change we're going through with AI-assisted coding. I can't tell you exactly what you need to do to succeed through this, but what I can do is help you navigate it within the context of your own goals.

The primary piece of advice I'd give leaders right now is to support shared learning, cultivating activities such as pair programming and mentorship.

Before I worked in tech I'd spent a decade doing a variety of jobs in different industries, including several years managing a public sector arts venue. I learned at least as much from these (often low paid) roles as I have in tech when it comes to navigating organisations and communities. I still draw on the experience of negotiating with agents and production companies to deliver more for the community and local artists – and managing a licensed venue with all sorts of shenanigans unfolding daily!

I've worked at companies going through staggering rates of growth. While I was at Postman the workforce doubled in size, and at Glitch we went through the threat of platform shutdown, to acquisition and finding ourselves in a radically different type of environment. From public companies to the public sector and more startups than I care to remember, I've learned how organisational dynamics play into learning strategies.

Again and again I've gravitated towards organisational change projects in the companies I've worked at. I'm a huge advocate for approaching challenges systemically, and building cultures for learning. I've brought leadership to many a period of difficult change, supporting teams through unsettling transitions.

At Fastly I had the opportunity to bring about significant culture change and transformation, with teams that had historically not been collaborating effectively learning to work towards shared goals by building trust.

Adopting a learning mindset has allowed me to adapt to change and help others to develop resilience. Organisations that successfully leverage new automations often do it by adopting learning practices.
